Lapis Casa Hotel

HOTEL DESCRIPTION

A sophisticated atmosphere, romantic dining and antiques make this boutique hotel on the edge of the pedestrian Xin Tian Di district one of the most unique hotels in the city. The hotel was refurbished by the Taiwanese owners of a Shanghai restaurant brand "Lapis Lazuli" who have created 18 individually designed guestrooms and opened a Japanese and Taiwanese restaurant on the premises. The hotel includes several 1920's antiques that recall the glamour of Shanghai's at the beginning of the twentieth century. The interior decor combines Tuscan terracotta tiles and Spanish archways with rich Chinese woods and comfy club chairs.

The rooms at Lapis Casa also boast a touch of 1920s Shanghai decadence with the club chairs, candelabra and green jade sinks. Furthermore the hotel is secluded in a small alleyway, allowing quiet respite from the city centre's hustle and bustle. Hotel guests can also enjoy complimentary in-room Internet access and a mini bar service including soft drinks, bottled water, local beer and tea and coffee.

LOCATION

The neighbouring Xin Tian Di car-free area is composed of an area of restored traditional shikumen ("stone gate") houses on narrow alleys, a modern shopping mall with a cinema complex, and some adjoining houses which now serve as book stores, cafes and restaurants. Most of the cafes and restaurants feature both indoor and outdoor seating. Xin Tian Di has active nightlife on weekdays as well as weekends, although romantic settings are more common than loud music and dance places.
